Nokia, a once mobile phone giant has now raised the white flag and was bought by the operating system tycoon, Microsoft. From here on out, every phone that Nokia creates will be rebranded to Microsoft, which I think is pretty okay considering the latter’s name and reputation.
Since then, Microsoft has been releasing new Lumia phones that sport the Windows 10 mobile operating system. It is a newcomer when it comes to mobile phone operating systems but it is no slouch when it comes to the desktop operating environment.
Today, we are going to talk about the Microsoft Lumia 950. This phone is said to be in the midrange and it does sport some new features that will probably entice a lot of people. But, Lumia phones as of late do not enjoy much success in terms of sales. Does the Microsoft Lumia 950 have what it takes to put the Lumia line back on the map? We will find out in this article.
The build construction of the Microsoft Lumia 950 is sturdy enough. This mobile phone is constructed with a polycarbonate plastic and the display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The front side of the phone is glossy, but thankfully, the back panel is not slippery at all thanks to the matte finish.
At the back of the phone lies the Microsoft logo as well as the speakers, LED flash, and a slightly protruding rear camera.
I am quite surprised of this phone’s display. The Microsoft Lumia 950 is fitted with a 5.-inch screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 and it packs a whopping pixel density of 564ppi.
Even though the Microsoft Lumia 950 has a quad-HD resolution screen and a huge pixel count, this phone’s brightness levels cannot match that of Samsung’s and Apple’s. Still, using this as a media device is a good thing, though you have to make sure you’re indoors as quality may suffer when you’re outside.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 comes with the Windows 10 operating system. Now, Windows phones are not new, in fact, there are a lot of them out there that didn’t make it successful (which is why Nokia had a bad share of the mobile phone market).
Windows 10 aims to provide a different user experience in that it is highly-revamped now and it is more fluid than ever before.
But, since this mobile phone operating system is still relatively new, people might not get accustomed to it. I am quite positive, though, that the Windows 10 platform will be as successful as the iOS or Android.
The performance of the Microsoft Lumia 950 is pretty good. It comes with the 64-bit Qualcomm six-core processor in the form of the Snapdragon 808 and the Adreno 418 GPU. The processor is clocked at 1.82GHz and 1.44GHz.
As for the phone’s camera, the Microsoft Lumia 950 comes with a 20-megapixel PureView Camera with an aperture of f/1.9 and the optical image stabilization technology and a triple LED flash.
The camera is very good and it even rivals that of the iPhone 6S. The front camera is quite average so there really is nothing more left to say.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 has 4G LTE connectivity. If you live in the United States or Canada, you can get a mobile phone signal booster to help improve the Lumia 950’s mobile phone signal reception.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 aims to provide a better Windows mobile phone experience. Hopefully, with this phone, the Lumia line gets back to the top.
